the Raw Deal archives
Princeton University's basement station WPRB 103.3 FM brought the best in underground Hip Hop Thursday nights to NJ and Philly. While helping my Mom move out of my childhood house, the biggest regret was I could not find a scorecard pencil from Pine Valley or my 90 Minute Sony Tapes of the Raw Deal. Thank you internet for these archives found a few years ago! The Raw Deal radio show broke groups like the Wu-Tang Clan and Poor Righteous Teachers. Plus, featured in-studio performances.

The Tommy Boy crew rolls massive into the studio including Naughty By Nature before their first album (as NBN) hit the shelves. Along with them is Prince Rakeem who, of course, later became Wu-Tang Clan's Rza. Interestingly, he mentions his "Wu-Tang Slang style," and the Wu-Tang crew had not yet been formed by that name.

This was a large content show that started at 8 PM and ran well past midnight. More than 4 straight hours of a playlist that ends with a Pete Rock remix of Public Enemy's Shut 'Em Down, includes EPMD (4th song), Das EFX, MC Serch, Boogie Down Productions, and even House Of Pain's Jump Around.
